Question 1 of 12
1.25 Points

How should logistics be addressed in the design process? What would you do to ensure this will happen?

The design process according to the book is includes three phases; conceptual design, preliminary system design, and detail design and development. Reflect some of the steps that are inherent within the mainstream activities of design and to show a relationship with a few of the more significant logistics activities.

It is all about the customer and what they need, communicating with the customer and see what they are looking for is a start. As in conceptual design, logistics requirements must be considered as an integral part of the preliminary system design process. The next step would be to convert the information provided by the customer and put the proper mix of hardware, software, people, data, and specific items of support.
Question 2 of 12
1.25 Points

Describe how the supportability analysis (SA) fits into the design process?

Aid in the initial establishment of supportability requirements during conceptual design.
Aid in the early establishment of supportability design-to criteria through the definition of system operational requirements and the maintenance and support concept, the identification and prioritization of technical performance measures (TPMs), the performance of functional analysis, and in the allocation of requirements.
Aid in the synthesis, analysis, and design optimization effort through the conductance of trade-off studies and the evaluation of various design alternatives.

Aid in the evaluation of a given design configuration relative to the determination of specific maintenance and logistic support resource requirements (i.e., a new design configuration described through a data package or an existing system configuration already being utilized).
Aid in the measurement and evaluation, or assessment, of an operating system to determine its effectiveness and the degree of supportability being exhibited in the user’s environment.
