.05x + .10(84-x)=7.15
8.4-.10x+.05x=7.15
1.25=.05x
x=25 (.05 pieces)
84-25=59 (.10 pieces)

Let X = the number of dimes
therefore, 84 - X = the number of nickles

10X + 5(84-X) = 715
10X + (420 - 5X) = 715
10X - 5X = 715 - 420
5X = 295
X = 59, the number of dimes
(84 - X) = 25, the number of nickles

therefore, you'd have $5.90 worth of dimes and $1.25 worth of nickles.
