i was wondering if anyone knew what conditions are required to go from

1-methylcyclohexene to trans-2-methycyclohexanol

i tried oxymercuration, but it doesnt give me the trans molecule.  thanks!
wouldnt H2SO4 and heat give me 1-methylcyclohexanol?
i mean h2so4, heat and water gives me 1-methylcyclohexanol (methyl and OH on the same carbon)
another question.  is it possible to synthesize 2-butyne from trans-2-butene?  i thought you would need a halide on the butene, but the problem im looking at doesnt have anything like that.

You just need to heat with H2SO4 and water.  You will likely get some cis product (unavoidable), but it will be a very low percentage.
