The body is made up of billions of cells, each with millions of continuous life-generating chemical reactions. Biochemical pathways are the directions that different chains of chemical reactions take to produce the compounds and products essential for life - eg. glycolysis Glycolysis is a central pathway for the catabolism of carbohydrates in which the six-carbon sugars are split to three-carbon compounds with subsequent release of energy used to transform ADP to ATP. Each step in the pathway is catalysed by an enzyme.
