im writing exam notes, and i have written down that it goes proteases break down polypeptides into dipepetides and the dipeptides into amino acids, but then i have writtten down somewhere else that pepsinis an enzyme that breaks proteins into smaller molecules (polypeptides). im so confused!

proteases  embodies enzymes that digest protein which are

pepsin are enzymes found in the digestive system (stomach) that helps in protein digestion ...hydrolyzes specific peptide bonds

others are chymtrypsin, trypsin, carboxypeptidase in the small intestine

Pepsin is a specific protease. Proteases are any enzymes that degrade proteins. Pepsin is a protease that breaks down large proteins into smaller polypeptides. Other proteases take these polypeptides and break them down further.
