B. Decrease
C. Change rapidly and unpredictably
D. Change slowly and predictably

2.  Forty nine percent of a population of hared have a recessive trait of white coat. According to the Hardy- Weinberg principle, what percentage of the next generation should have this trait if no mutations occur, the population is large, and mating occurs randomly?

1. A
2. A The Hardy-Weinberg Principle basically says thay allele frequencies won't change from generation to generation. There are two equations related to Hardy-Weinberg. Let p be one allele and q be the other allele. The equations are p + q = 1 and p^2 + 2pq + q^2 = 1. In this case you know that your initial q^2 =0.49. As star correctly calculated, that means that q=0.7. But she forgot that in order to get the percentage of white coats in the next generation you have to square 0.7, and 0.7^2=0.49, or 49%. Again, the other way of thinking about this is that since the population obeys the Hardy-Weinberg assumptions, the frequencies will not change so the answer has to be 49%.

1.A
2. 49% as it obeys haryweinberg's law.
