use the bonding theory, and CO2 is not an ionic bond Fyi, CO2 has a double bond, and it is linear, like O=C=O, and the electrons are shared amongst the atoms, not at all like an ionic bond, and NaCl simply has a transfer of an electron, so you really end up with Na+ and Cl- that just get bound together via that transfer.
