ionic bonds are polar and they are nothing like covalent bonds.
ionic bonds are between metals and non-metals where the metal 'gives up' its electrons to the more electronegative non-metal. there is unequal sharing of the electron(s).  ionic bonds are much stronger than covalent bonds resulting in the compounds having high melting and boiling points in comparison to the covalent compounds.
they are nothing like non-polar covalent bonds in that non-polar covalent bonds are best seen in the diatomic gases such as H2, O2, etc. these compounds are non-polar and have an equal sharing of electrons yet have very low melting points and boiling points as these compounds are gases at room temperature
