How do chromosomes stain pink when stained with Schiff's Reagent?

Is it because of aliphatic ketones or aliphatic aldehydes?

If it is because of one of the above named, how does it happen?

Chromosomes are essentially made of DNA ( Deoxyribo nucleic acid). When chromosomes are subjected to acid hydrolysis, the acid is hydrolysed to aldehyde groups. This is easily stained by Schiff's reagent.
