Amine is NH2 yeah? Carboxyl is COOH and hydroxyl is OH right? Which atoms are included in a an  amide and ester group?
so if i were asked to 'circle the ester functional group' in a molecule, would i include all the atoms in the 'R'?

Both are derivatives of carboxylic acids and contain a carbonyl group.
An ester is  -COOR Where R is an alkyl group and

an amine is -CONH2 the hydrogens of the amino group may be substituted by alkyl groups.
