I also would like to know the identity of the element that the noble gas reacted with and how in the blue blazes did a gas with a full valence shell react with another element?

Xenon was the first inert gas to be shown to form a chemical compound...the experiment was easy was done by Neil Bartlett  at the University of British Columbia and involved reacting xenon with platinum hexafluoride at 77K and allowing the gaseous mixture to warm slowly producing xenon hexafluoroplatinate a yellow solidthe electron obtained from xenon does not result in a true ionic bind but rather a  or partially ionic bond in a tight pair
