this pH is reffered to as the isoelectric point or pI , which can be calculated by averaging the pKa of the alfa carboxylic acid group of cysteine (2.05) and the pKa of the alfa ammonuim group (10.25) , then pI = 6.15 . when pH= 6.15 cysteine has no net charge
