1.) 5/2t-t=3.3/2t
2.)-5x-10=2x+8
3.) 2/3v-6=6-2/3v
4.)5(-6-3d)=3(8+7d)

My textbook is inaccurate and I'm having load of problems solving equations with fractions. I'm also confused about combining "like" terms. Much help would be appreciated. Thanks!

1)        10t=6.6t-3.3t
            10t=3.3t
      10t-3.3t=0
            6.7t=t

1)I'm not sure about the first one.
LCM=2
5t-2t/2=3.3/2t
3t/2=3.3/2t
cross multiplication
6t^2=6.6
t^2=6.6/6=1.1
t=root 1.1
2)Becca, when there are like terms on both sides of the equation, we take the like terms to one side
-5x-2x=8+10
-7x=18
x= -18/7
3)2/3v+2/3v=6+6
4/3v=12
v=12/4/3
v=9
4)simplify the brackets
-30-15d=24+21d
-15d-21d=24+30
-36d=54
d=-54/36= -3/2

Did you study exponents and square roots yet?  You need them for the first example.  There are two ways of solving the equation.  One way is to combine like terms and another way is to get rid of the fractions by multiplying by the denominator.  I'll show you both ways.

Get the like terms on the same side of the equation.  You do that by subracting 5/2t from both sides so you get -t=3.3/2t-5/2t.  I hope that this makes sense to you.  Of course you still have to deal with fractions, but I'm sure you can do it.  It simplifies to -t=-1.7/2t.  Did you see how we got that.  Since the denominator is the same just subtract 5 from 3.3.  3.3-5=-1.7.  I hope you can add negative numbers.  So
we still have do get the answer to t, multiply by -1 on both sides and t=1.7/2t.  Now get t on only one side by multiplying both sides by t to cancel out the t in the fraction. t^2=1.7/2, t= square root of 0.85

We combine like terms to shorten and simplify algebraic expressions
Only the coefficients of like terms are different. they contain the same variables ... To combine like terms, add the coefficients and multiply the sum by the common variables

It's easy to get rid of fractions from your equations by multiplying both sides of the equation by the denominator.  In example 1) multiply by 2t on both sides and you get 5-2t^2=3.3, then its easy -2t^2=3.3-5, that simplifies to -2t^2=-1.7, and that t^2=1.7/2, and that t=square root of 0.85

Just to be sure, Is your first example (5/2) multiplied by t or is it 5 divided by 2t Neutral Face

In my calculations in the first example 5 divided by 2t is the way I read it.

2) -5x-2x-10=8...-7x-10=8...-7x=18
    ...x=18/-7...x=-2.57
3) 2/3v+2/3v-6=6...4/3v-6=6...4/3v=12...
    ...4=12(3v)...4=36v...v=4/36
    ...v=0.111

It seems in these examples you are learning also about order of operations.
4) -30-15d=24+21d...-30=24+21d+15d
    ...-30=24+36d
    ...-30-24=36d...-54=36d
    ...d=-54/36...d=-1.5

Something is wrong with your first equation. Cannot be solved.

Equation 2

-5x - 10 = 2x + 8
rearrange
-5x - 2x = 10 + 8
-7x = 18
x = 18/-7
x = -2.5714

Equation 3

2/3v - 6 = 6 - 2/3v
rearrange
-6 -6 = -2/3v -2/3v
-12 = -4/3v
cross multiply
-36v = -4
v = -4/-36
v = 0.1111

Equation 4

5(-6 - 3d) = 3(8 + 7d)
open the brackets
-30 - 15d = 24 + 21d
switch the expressions around remembering the sign change
-30 - 24 = 21d + 15d
-54 = 36d
d = -54/36
d = -1.5

As a check, substitute the values of the variables into the original equations to see if they are correct.
