A car is traveling around a horizontal circular track with radius r = 150 m at a constant speed v = 20 m/s as shown. The angle θA = 30° above the x axis, and the angle θB = 54° below the x axis.
1) What is the magnitude of the car’s acceleration?
2) What is the x component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point A?
3) What is the y component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point A?
4) What is the x component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point B?
5) What is the y component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point B?
6) As the car passes point B, the y component of its acceleration is:?
increasing
constant
decreasing

A car is traveling around a horizontal circular track with radius r = 150 m at a constant speed v = 20 m/s as shown. The angle θA = 31° above the x axis, and the angle θB = 55° below the x axis.

1) What is the magnitude of the car’s acceleration? =2.67

2) What is the x component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point A?

3) What is the y component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point A?

4) What is the x component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point B?

5) What is the y component of the car’s acceleration when it is at point B?

1) Don't forget the units for acceleration, 2.67m/s^2.

2) The acceleration is a vector directed towards the centre of rotation, If is in the direction from A to the cetrne.
x component = 2.67cos(31°) = 2.29m/s^2

3) y component = 2.67sin(31°)

4) x component = 2.67cos(55°)

5) y component = -2.67sin(55°) (note the negative sign as it is directed in the -y direction)
