2 Rightwards Arrow In all forms of diabetes insipidus, serum sodium can increase to pathologic levels, so hypernatremia can occur and should be treated. The glucose level is not affected, so hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia is not caused by the diabetes insipidus. Hypercalcemia (high calcium) does not occur with this endocrine disorder.
