predator-relationships rely on each other. They pretty much COMPETE with each other.  Prays want to live and predators want to eat them so they can live.  if a LIMITING FACTOR, such as disease or parasite, is spread amongst the prey, the prey would decrease in size due to the disease and the predators would also decrease in size due to the lack of food.  If disease spreads among the predators, the predators would decrease because they're dying off and the pray would increase because there is not enough predators to keep them at their carrying capacity.  The pray, in this scenario, would OVERPOPULATE.  If the pray population decreases, the predator population would increase. If the pray population decreases, the predator population would decrease.  If the predator population increases, the pray population would increase to stay alive.  If the predator population decrease, the pray population would increase because there are less predators. I hope i helped.

Predators are dependent on prey as a food source.  Prey is dependent on predators to weed out the weak and keep their populations in check.  When there is an overpopulation of prey, predators have a feeding frenzy and help bring those numbers down.  This in turn causes a population explosion in the predator species.  When the prey numbers have been significantly diminished, the weaker members of the predator species will die from starvation because there is greater competition between the predators for the food source.  In this case, the prey species is the limiting factor for the population growth of the predator species.  In other words, the factor that limits the population growth of the predator species is how much food (prey) is available.
