I really need help with the following questions. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Exercise 5 - Activity 7


1. Explain why a thicker myocardium is seen in both the athlete's heart and the diseased heart.

2. Describe what the term afterload means.

3. Explain which mechanism in the simulation had the greatest compensatory effect.

4. Describe the mechanism used in the heart to compensate for aortic stenosis.

The thickness of the myocardium increases with athletes heart due to the increased demand placed on the heart with cardiovascular conditioning. In the diseased heart, the thickness increases to overcome the increased preload.
