Part A. Uniform Linear Motion: Show work and formulas used.

1. A car accerlerates from 10 m/s to 25 m/s in 6.0 s.   What was its acceleration?  How far did it travel in this time

2. A world class sprinter can reach a top speed of about 11.5 m/s in the first 15.0 m of a race.  What is the average acceleration of the sprinter over this distance ?

3. A stone is thrown horozontially at a speed of 23.0 m/s and it strikes the ground 10 m below some time later.  Assuming air resistance can be ignored determine:
(a) How long it took to reach the ground
(b) Its vertical speed at the point of impact
(c) Its velocity at the point of impact

4. A person jumps from a fourth-story window 15.0 m above a firefighter's safety net.  The survivor stretches the net 1.0 m before coming to rest.
(a) What was the speed of the person a the point of impact with the net?
(b) What was the average deceleration experienced by the survivor?
(c) What would you do to make it "safer" ? Explain

1. acceleration = (Final Velocity - Initial Velocity)/time
     (25m/s-10m/s)/60sec
     =(15m/s)/60sec
     =15m/s/s or 15 m/s^2
