Crossing over and recombination within the inversion loop of an inversion heterozygote results in 50% viable and 50% nonviable gametes for both paracentric and pericentric inversions. What leads to nonviable gametes in each case? How are the structures that form after crossing over and before anaphase of meiosis I different for paracentric and pericentric inversions?
