they have the same structure but what makes them different. granted a polymer can be much longer. i realise that polymers are created from alkenes.
they have the same atomic structure.

Alkanes, also known as paraffins, are chemical compounds that consist only of the elements carbon (C) and hydrogen (H) (i.e., hydrocarbons), wherein these atoms are linked together exclusively by single bonds

A polymer is a large molecule (macromolecule) composed of repeating structural units typically connected by covalent chemical bonds. While polymer in popular usage suggests plastic, the term actually refers to a large class of natural and synthetic materials with a variety of properties and purposes.

altough bot are basically hydrocarbon compunds, molecular weight of polymers is thousends even a million times bigger that alkenes...

Some polymers are indeed created from alkenes, but not all... And in alkenes you´ll find doble carbon-carbon bonds, but in the polymers cretaed from those you´ll only get single carbon-carbon bonds...

All these things generated very very diferent materials, with diferent properties...
