It is called a condensation reaction if two molecules combine, this often produces water. It would be a hydrolysis reaction if two molecules split apart.

Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) combine to form table salt (NaCl) and water (H2O)

The overall reaction is:

HCL + NaOH Rightwards Arrow NaCl + H2O

Alternately, molecular hydrogen and oxygen will combust violently and produce only water.
The stoichiometrically balanced equation is:

2 H2 + O2 Rightwards Arrow 2 H2O
