Let m and n be the numbers.

m - n = 88
n = 0.2m

m - 0.2m = 88
0.8m = 88
m = 110
n = 22

The numbers are 110 and 22.

x-y=88

y=0.2x

x-0.2x=88

5x-x=440
4x=110
x=110

y=0.2x
y=22

110-22=88

y = (1/5)x
Add the two eqations
x = 88 + (1/5)x
Subtract (1/5)x
(4/5)x = 88
Multiply by 5
4x = 440
Divide by 4
x = 110

Replace 'x' with 110 in equation 1
110 - y = 88
-y = -22
y = 22

Two numbers are
110 and 22
