Let's say the compound gear train consists of a 45:15, 75:45, and a 75:15. What is the gear ratio of the compound gear train?

Just multiply together the fraction equivalents of the ratios.

45/15 x 75/45 x 75/15 = 3/1 x 5/3 x 5/1 = 25/1

Then the compound gear ratio is 25 : 1
