I need to know how to solve (x+1) / (2x+1) for x.  What steps algebraically do I use??  I can get the answer by trial and error BUT I need to know algebraically.
How do i solve y = (x+1) / (2x+1) algebraically for x?

Without an equality sign, there is no equation, just an expression, so it can't be solved, only simplified, which it already is.

It's not equal to anything, so you can't solve for x. If it is equal to 0, then multiply both sides by 2x + 1, which just gets rid of it, and solve x + 1 = 0, which is just x = -1.
