In biochemistry, a substrate is a molecule upon which an enzyme acts.
Can anyone give me a definition even a non bio major can understand.
I think it mean the molecule in which the enzyme affects.... or does it mean the molecule in which the enzyme works with? ERm. So confused.

The substrate is the molecule that fits into an enzymes. Once the substrate fits in (think of an enzyme like a pocket and your hand as a substrate), it is converted by the enzyme into some other molecule.
