Consumer may have lower price threshold below which price signal to inferior or unacceptable quality because many consumer use price as indictor of  quality ( e.g. A pricely food means it's good quality while cheap food means it's bad or it's reached expiration date that's why it's on sale or something like that). Also, price acts as a signal of equality
