The nurse is preparing medication for parenteral administration that comes in a vial and must be mixed from powder with sterile saline. The vial says to mix the medication with 4.8 mL; however, the nurse knows the medication must be further diluted to 25 mL before administering. The nurse will:
1. Add 29.8 mL of fluid to the vial.
2. Add 4.8 mL of fluid to the vial, draw out the medication, and dilute to 25 mL.
3. Add 25 mL to the vial.
4. Any of these methods would be accurate.
