If you want to use the quadratic formula to solve this one, you'll need to expand the term on the left-side and group everything together:
  5(x+7)^2 Rightwards Arrow 5x^2 + 70x + 245 = 5 Rightwards Arrow 5x^2 + 70x +240 = 0.  Now a = 5, b = 70, and c = 240.

An easier method might be to solve the equation directly:
  5(x+7)^2 = 5
  (x+7)^2 = 1
  (x+7) = 1  or (x+7) = -1
  x = -6 or x = -8

Hope this helps.

5 (x + 7)^2 = 5
(x + 7)^2 = 1
x^2 + 14x + 49 = 1
x^2 + 14x + 48 = 0

x = -6 or -8
