I am thinking of science fair Ideas and I am curious if it is possible to reverse (hand size or a tad bigger) electromagnet's polarity (Possibly by more power) so instead of pulling objects, they would push them (Would try to levitate something by having a ring of magnets around an object)

Also Im in High School and If it helps my budget is $100
Yes sorry I know Is appears twice in the question. Sorry

Reverse polarity - yes - exchange connections
Push - no - it just swaps N&S poles
Magnets only push if two like poles or with AC coils they induce a like pole in a non-magnetic material - like aluminum

An electromagnet can be reversed by swapping the polarity of the battery connections.

But an electromagnet will always attract a piece of unmagnetized iron or steel, as it induces a reverse polarity magnet into it.

But if you have an electromagnet attracting a permanent magnet and swap the polarity the permanent magnet will be repulsed.
