Let's say you have 2 aqueous solutions name X and Y. One of them is sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and the other is sodium oxide (Na2O). How do you find the difference?
What about lead oxide and lead hydroxide?

The metal oxides made are solids for e.g

ANY METAL+oxygen=(name of metal)oxide

for e.g
magnesium (metal) + oxygen = magnesium oxide got it?
2 Mg(s=solid)  + O2(g=gas) = 2MgO(s=solid)

*non-metals burning*
When non-metals burn, their oxides are OFTEN gases for e.g

MOST NON-METAL + oxygen = non-metal dioxide

Carbon (any non-metal) + oxygen = carbon dioxide ALWAYS A DIOXIDE FOR NONMETALS!

magnesuim oxide + water = magnesium HYDROXIDE
metal oxide dissolving in water results an alkaline solution

carbon dioxide + water = carbonic acid
MOST non-metal oxides dissolving in water froms ACIDS

Metal oxides are basic
non-metal oxides are acidic

1) the oxides result from the reaction of the metal with oxygen - as you show in your case Na2O
2) the metal oxides react with water to form hydroxides - in your case Na2O + H2O ? 2NaOH
3) you cannot have a solution of a metal oxide in water, it will immediately react to form the hydroxide. So you cannot have an aqueos solution of Na2O .

In contrast, the non-metals form oxides when reacted with oxygen typically S+O2? SO2 . But these oxides when reacted with water produce acids, as in SO2 + H2O ? H2SO3. This is one of the major chemical ways of differentiating metals and nonmetals. Are their oxides basic or acidic when reacted with water?
