I'll explain with simple example-

2H2 + O2->2H2O
now this means 2 moles of H2 react with 1 mole of O2 to form 2 moles of H2O.
this can also be written as
4H2+O2->4H2O
which means 4 moles of hydrogen on reaction with 2 moles of oxygen gives 4 moles of water..

the reaction in which there is no common number by which all reactants and product are divisible is the most common one!!!
the given reaction is also sometimes written as-
H2+1/2O2->H20

Sorry but I cannot agree that "each chemical reaction has many possible balanced equations" . There is a specific balanced equation that describes how the reactants interact to produce the products. I am confident that most reactions ( probably close to 99% of reactions) are described by a unique specific reaction equation. This is the basics of chemistry.
