Basically replicate the same design and pattern right next to the "alien" one, in the same crop, and see what happens.

Is there any documentation of anybody doing this?

At some point, farmers start getting extremely annoyed with twits trampling down their crops (ie their *livelihood*).
Feel free to offer a farmer a fair price for the crops you will destroy (anywhere from $100 to $500 per acre) and they may be inclined to let you experiment to your heart's content.

Replicate those original crop circles made in few hours in pitch darkness?One can't get any close to that by even 10% .Who ever says  all crop circles have been man made and explained is joking.
