I would really like to major in forensic science ESPECIALLY the Pathology area. I was just wondering how often do these people have to deal with really gruesome gut wrenching crimes. I really have to be prepared for what I am getting into. Thanx for any sensible answers

Considering that one of the major roles of a Forensic Pathologist is to determine cause of death, then the answer is often.

They may not necessarily have to attend the scene of the crime, but they will have to deal with the body (or what's left of it).
