I am remediating for a biology exam, it asks for 3 but i have already found one so I need 2 examples with explanations. I have adhesion of water up xylem, I put pressure but she said it needed an explanation. Can someone explain why pressure is one of the factors and also another factor? Thank you so much, the remediation is due tomorrow btw

You are correct adhesion is how water clings to the xylem however the water molecules COHERE together. The xylem is a long narrow tube so the adhesion and cohesion create a capillary action. Together with the evaporation removing water at the leaf, creating a low water potential at the top of the column, the capillarity continuously moves the column of water against gravity.
