Juanita is from a low-SES family. Her friends are also from low-SES families, though most of their peers are from middle class families. Jerita has decided that school is a dead end and does not want to succeed academically. Her Spanish teacher believes Juanita could make high grades in Spanish and some of her other classes. The teacher encourages Juanita to turn in homework and raise her grades, but Juanita does not want to sell out and act like the middle class kids. She seems to have become part of:
