what are the advantages and disadvantages of electronic equipment?

Can you compare a TV (electronic) to a mechanical TV when there is no such thing?

Compare a radio to a voice tube?  distance, sound clarity

a computer to an adding machine?  That one should be obvious. Speed, versatility, accuracy, price

Another comparison occurs to me, and that is an automobile from, say 1960 to one from 2000. The 60 auto had little or no electronics, while current cars have lots. This gives us lots of advantages in more power, more reliability, less pollution, more safety.

An airplane from 1920 to a 747? speed, safety, reliability, speed, capacity.

A motion picture theater with no electronics would be in B&W with no sound.


As to why, that should be obvious from the items above. Cost, reliability, pollution, capability, safety, speed.
