To increase food production, modern agriculture uses genetic engineering to improve variety of plants. However, a lot of people still prefer organic food. What are the advantages and disadvantages of these approaches?

Using only "heritage" strains of crop plants, two thirds of the people on Earth would starve to death.  I'd call organic food production pretty much a fringer thing.
