Can you explain the neurological events that cause pain inhibition when a skeletal muscle is slowly stretched?  In other words, what occurs in the muscle when  it is slow stretched, and what neurological and chemical responses occur that inhibit nociception and ultimately reduce pain?

It can release endorphins, which are natural pain inhibitors.
