Using a 0.4mL aliquot of the 0.1mM solution, how much water is needed to dilute the solution to 0.02mM? Using what dilution factor?

You need a total volume that is 0.4mL * 0.1/0.02 = 2.0 mL.

Since you already have 0.4 mL, you need an additional 1.6 mL.

You are adding 4 times the original amount, in order to dilute to 1/5 strength.
