"how can a polarimeter get measurements above 360 degrees?

This has to do with specific rotation. My professor wants us to find out how sometimes, some rotations go above 360 degrees. A polarimeter can only read upto 360 degrees so how is it possible to get a reading of 420 degrees rotation by polarimeter?
