I also need the problem worked out so that I can better understand how you came up with the answer....


A basketball player shot 36 times and scored 59 points in one game if each free throw is 1 point and each goal is 2 points how many of each did the player make?

assume that he had x goals, which means that he had (36-x) free throws,we can have the equation as follows:
    2x+ (36-x)=59
      x=23..........goals
36-23=13......free throws
