Some critics of Lazarus point out that some emotional reactions are instantaneous—occurring too rapidly to pass through cognitive appraisal. Lazarus responds that
a. these are not true emotions.
b. instinctual emotions bypass cognition.
c. some mental processing occurs without conscious awareness.
d. his theory has this one problem only.
