When you write an accurate letter of recommendation for a friend, which of the following would be most helpful?
a. Begin and end the letter with negative aspects and positives in the middle.
b. List the most positive aspects first and place any negatives farther down in the letter.
Correct: Because of the primacy effect, if we were to present an individual’s profile in a letter of recommendation, it would be best to start with positive information and add less flattering information later in the letter, as the first impression will impact subsequent information.
c. List any negatives first and then end with the most positive strengths.
d. The order in which positive and negative aspects are mentioned is not important.
