1 gram of fat (lipid) = 9 calories
1 gram of carb = 4 calories

yes calories is a measure of energy. That's why people ask how many calories are in food. They want to know how much energy does it provide. By definition, calorie is a unit used to express the heat output of a certain food. If something produces heat, then it is burning calories (energy). Do you get it?  Undecided
