The CIO is in charge of information processing, including systems design and development and data center operations.He or she is responsible for updating or replacing the computer systems and the software the company uses. The CIO must also manage a budget that balances the benefits of technology against the ever-rising costs of upgrading to the latest systems. In addition, CIOs are involved in creating business and e-business opportunities as well as defining governing policies for the company in areas such as privacy and security.
