. Creatinine Clearance test is NOT a waste product as your sentence reads. Creatinine is the by product of muscle metabolism. Furthermore, I read your response but I still do not understand why we cannot use sodium ion to measure the kidney function. What does make creatinine such a valuable variable to be used in this assay?

Hi Maria,

Serum creatinine (a blood measurement) is an important indicator of renal health because it is an easily-measured by-product of muscle metabolism that is excreted unchanged by the kidneys. Creatinine itself is produced [2] via a biological system involving creatine, phosphocreatine (also known as creatine phosphate), and adenosine triphosphate (ATP, the body's immediate energy supply).
