Stem cell research is really important nowadays, if more investments are made it will be the future of medicine and will provide cures for many genetic diseases.

Another important new field in biology is regenerative medicine and nanotechnology in medicine, it is based on stem cell research, but a bit more elaborated. It can solve organ donors issues.

Great news articles posted so far. Just to add a bit of quick background, the crux of the stem cell debate revolves around embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells have greater potency and are more versatile than adult stem cells due to the fact that they haven't developed a specified function or been assigned to a specific organ. But, harvesting embryonic stem cells is inherently controversial because the means to do so often mean the destruction of an embryo. Recent research has suggested, however, that embryonic stem cells can be harvested from the umbilical cord.
