I started this problem:
2(x-7)+5=3x-10

I was able to get this far, thinking I was on track:

2(x-7)+5=3x-10
2x-14+5=3x-10
2x-3x-14+5=3x-3x-10
-1x-9=-10
This is where I got stuck, I thought it would be x-9=-10 but I am not sure and can't grasp how to resolve this one.

Help is appreciated!

2x-3x=-10+9
-x=-1
x=1

You were right. When in doubt, plug your answer back in to check. Actually, you still should always do that. But yeah.

Where you got stuck: -1x-9=-10

If both side multiple by -1, then they all become positive:

-1 (-1x-9) = -1 (-10)

x+9 = 10

x=1
