If lines are perpendicular, they're slopes are opposite reciprocals. The reciprocal of 7 is 1/7, and the opposite of 7 is -7, so therefore, the slope of the perpendicular line is -1/7.

So, take your number.

7

Change its sign, right now it's +, so it becomes negative:

-7

Now flip it! Remember, -7 is the same as -7/1.

1/-7 or -1/7
