1. Initiation rituals were found to create bonds through the victimization of women and the shared experience of pain or abuse on the part of prospective members.
2. Gang rape of a woman served to reinforce a sense of unity among members.
3. This is similar to groups of men in some Amazonian cultures that have a separate space and may gang rape a woman who enters it.
4. This is similar to the U.S. fraternities described in Peggy Sanday's work that create a sense of shared identity through the abuse of women.
